We post our blogs, but we are more interested in sharing your voice with readers so they can get to know you. Developing a loyal following is extremely important in this business, so we hope you will take this opportunity. We want to post two to four blogs a month from our authors on whatever topic they wish. Just so you know, we reserve the right not to post a blog that we think is offensive.

JUMPSTARTING CREATIVITY………………………………by Luca DiMatteo
Sept 2024
..
Sometimes, the challenges we face don’t come from the words we strain to perfectly place on a page. Other times, they come from the forces around us. As authors, we contend with families, jobs, and other annoying distractions that try their hardest to keep us from our calling. These responsibilities can drain our creativity or at least dampen it.
..
Lately, there has been an overwhelming number of authors requesting ideas to help jumpstart their, dare I call it, writing libido. Come on, as crafters of the written word, it’s fun to take such liberties occasionally. Perhaps I will never pen a timeless story that gets handed down through the centuries, but I will have a good time writing whatever I write.
..
Anyway, let’s return to the matter at hand. The stress level in the writing community has risen to a new level, and more authors are asking for help getting the words down on paper.
..
Over the past few weeks, the threads of these conversations have led to hundreds of ideas on overcoming this dilemma, and most of them have one thing in common: none are creative. If a person is having trouble starting a creative process, doesn’t using a creative jumping-off point make sense? I think so.
..
All that leads to this point. When asked, I have always given the same advice. I suggest sitting in your favorite writing spot and picking an inanimate object to bring to life. Imagine what that object would feel and go through as it comes alive and aware. Finally, have a conversation with it.
..
The key is to have fun with it. Yes, it did backfire on me once. An author used my idea and wrote about the object being abandoned and left in the dark closet for years. It was a horrible story. I quit sharing this idea until recently and then again here, both times with the caveat that the key is to have fun with it.
..
If you try this idea, let me know how it works.
